Last Saturday, Megan and I had a craft day. We get so much done when we spend a whole day on projects. On my list, was a bench for the vintage pink vanity I shared last week.
This was super easy and here's a quick tutorial. I actually bought the bench last summer at a yard sale. It was rock solid, but covered with faded burgundy corduroy and filled with horse hair - vintage,
but kind of gross. And I really could have covered this bench long ago, but I always felt like she needed a purpose. Now I'm so glad I waited!
I painted the legs creamy white and added a layer of cushy foam.
Then I turned her upside down and added several layers of batting.
A staple gun is your friend on a project like this. Just staple away and trim the edges.
I wanted a simple slipcover, in a cute pink fabric of course.
The first step was to place the fabric over the bench with the right side facing down.
I marked my corners with straight pins, then removed the slipcover and drew a straight chalk line for each corner seam. Then I lined up my pins and tried it on again to be sure it fit properly.
Then I sewed a quick basting stitch on the sewing machine and tried it on one more time before I cut off my excess fabric. You know the old adage - measure twice, cut once.
I double stitched the seams and now all she needed was a hem. I just measured up 6 inches from the floor all the way around. I actually put the bench on the dining room table to make that part easier.
A hem all the way around and she was done!
Now my little vanity is complete.
I think they make the perfect pink pair!
Hmmm, I think she got a little wrinkled in transport, but I'll take care of that - the beauty of a slipcover!

Cute, cute fabric! And what a great idea to slipcover rather than make it permanent! Looks sweet with that vanity!

I love your cute little bench... and I like that the slipcover is simple! I'm needing to get working on my own slip for a bench... perhaps this is the inspiration I need! :)
