We're still in the middle of a whole lot of projects around here and things are a bit disorganized. I'm an organized girl, so that makes me a little cranky. In a effort to maintain my sanity, I took a break from painting yesterday (yes I wore real clothes with no paint stains) to get some organization done. I've been tryng to come up with a new way to store 30 years worth of photo albums. Does anyone even use photo albums anymore? Anyway, I decided to take over the top shelf of Megan's closet. And yes, I was concerned about the weight of the albums, but I thought it was worth a shot. ..... Well, as you can see, it was an epic fail and the albums came tumbling down! It was one of those slow motion kinds of things - nothing I could do but watch it happen! The shelf itself turned out to be plenty sturdy, but the screws holding the brackets came right out of the wall.
And when my sweet husband came home last night, all he said was, "Oh my!"
Mark (yes I have a contractor on call), if you're reading this, I'm going to need a little work done in the closet. Yes, the very same closet you just finished painting!
Now where am I going to put those darn photo albums?
Okay, back to work! Megan is coming over tomorrow and we're going to tackle a painting project that I've been thinking about for years, yes years! I need to have everything ready so we can crack open the paint the minute she gets here. And just so this post has at least one pretty picture, here's a sneak peek at the inspiration for tomorrow's project .....
I'm excited and a little scared all at the same time! Let's hope this one goes according to plan!

Wishing you luck...with everything!
that looks like something i would do... :)
and have fun tomorrow! can't wait to see what has been up your sleeve for 6 years!
I'm with Cassie, I would totally do that too. ;) You're in good company!
Good luck tomorrow! And I'm with the other commenters...I would totally do that too.
Oh NO! I can just see you watching it slowly lose it's hold and come crashing down. I have scrapbook photo albums that I have to find a place to store. I think you've got me beat in sheer numbers of books though. Love the inspiration photo...hope all goes well with this next project. :)
Glad you weren't hurt by tumbling photo albums! I have a bunch just like that and keep them on the bottom shelves of a bookshelf in my storage room. Excited to see what you'll be painting. Hang in there, organization will prevail!
Yikes! I'm glad you weren't standing under them when they fell! - Susan
Ugh! Sorry about the Great Photo Album Crash of 2012. But it's ALWAYS good to have a contractor friend on call ;-)
Hmm, maybe scan all the photos to disc and get rid of the albums? Or, perhaps under bed storage in the guest room? Attics are out and so are sheds and garages usually because of heat. Closet under the stairs?
Just glad you weren't hoarding vintage china in there! Sorry about the epic shelf fail, but looking forward to the reveal to come!

Uh oh! :) I have my albums stored in the basement in plastic totes... AFTER I scanned EVERY photo, yep, every photo.
ohhh, I can't WAIT to see what you girls are up to! I know it won't be an epic fail! :)

OH my -- we've all had those 'slow motion' disasters! I personally love photo albums and sadly, they're not considered 'vintage' I guess!
Oh Sharon, I am so sorry! Hopefully none of the photo albums fell on you! This so sounds like something that would happen to me. And for the record, I DO USE photo albums! My children love looking their own albums (which are very sporadically updated). Something about having tangible books in your hand with pages to turn and new pictures to look at as you browse through the album, very nostalgic and pleasant. Hope Mark makes it over ASAP! Good luck with the painting project!
Best of luck with the painting - I store 24 years of photos in albums in a closet in the spare room/ tv lounge. Our house is newer & has those hideous plastic coated wire shelves which I knew wouldn't hold up. Thankfully we also had an old melamine covered particle board bookcase that is beat up & ugly but sturdy. It fit into the closet just fine. With the albums in place you can't see the damage ( it was used for toy storage in my son's closet in our last house & took a beating- not that it was great quality to start with)If I'm bored this winter I may just repaint it.
OM Gosh! Bless your heart! I had the same problem. I just didn't know where to put them and some of them were being damaged because they were in albums that were not photo safe. I finally scanned them all in my computer (a little at a time) and I tell you that was a job! I took the pictures out and stored them in photo safe boxes which was much easier to handle. Love the inspiration pic. Good luck.
Hope all goes according to plan. It is rotten when things don't. What about getting some fun boxes or baskets for your albums and you can put them under a console table. Can't wait to see all your painting projects!
oh man that stinks! I still use photos albums too, I love them! No comparison to just looking at them on the computer.
I have a feeling the reveal is going to be fantastic.
