This combination headboard and footboard started out with a traditional brown maple finish. I picked them up at a yard sale. In my excitement to get started, I forgot to take a before picture, but I'm sure you know exactly what I mean.
I wanted to do a really simple classic look in a creamy white finish with no glazing
and just a bit of distressing. I think this duo has a great timeless look.
I did use a final coat of wax for a really smooth finish.
Sometimes the simple finishes turn out to be the very best!

You're right, they are simple & they are perfect!
it looks so pretty and very cottagey. i love the light distressing, too. and you know how i feel about paste wax- it is the best! thanks for joining my party!
Your right, sometimes the simple are the best! I haven't used the wax, now I will!
It looks so sweet, I love it. I have a twin headboard and footboard (that we saved from the side of the road :-) waiting for a fresh coat of creamy white as well. You can never go wrong with white, it is definitely my favorite color to use. I have stumbled across your blog several times in the past few weeks and I like it! I am your newest follower!
Love the white.
Love the shabby chic look. Turned out great!

Big improvement I'm sure. Yes, we've all seen that other finish. I like the idea that you waxed it as well. Jane F
I've been thinking about doing this for the new guest room we're going to be doing and this made me decide to definitely go ahead! Can I ask if you used spray paint and how many coats you did? Thanks!
The headboard and footboard are simple and beautiful. I'm also glad you included the picture of the Finishing Wax. I recently read about it on someone else's blog but didn't know what they were talking about. Thanks.

Lovely!
Did you prime the bed first or just apply paint? Simple looks good!
Answers to questions - Yes, I primed first. I almost always prime unless I am doing a heavy distressing and really want the old color to shine through. And yes, I did use spray paint this time. I thought Rust-oleum Painter's Touch ultra cover 2x in satin heirloom white would be perfect here. I don't use spray paint all that often, especially not on big pieces. I find the final result to sometimes be splotchy. To combat this problem, I try to use very light coats, but go over the piece quite a few times, basically until it looks nice and even. Thanks for asking!
Turned out really well! Great job!

I so agree....sometimes the simplest can be the purtiest :)
So tell me about that paste wax. Is it protective and does it turn stuff yellow like poly?
What a beautiful job you did, Sharon! I love seeing an all white piece with just light distressing. Very shabbily elegant! :) Now, do we get to see it all dressed up? Happy MM to you!
