Goose Creek Candle Company Giveaway

I love trying new products, so I was thrilled when the Goose Creek Candle Company offered to send me one of their candles to review. Their website is chock full of candles in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and scents. It was actually a hard decision, but I picked Mulled Cider to say welcome to fall. I've been burning it every evening all week long and the scent is really delightful - not too strong or overpowering. I've also noticed that it burns nice and clean (no black ring on the inside of the jar) and nice and slow.

My pick is from the American Heirloom Collection. I really like the look of the vintage jar and the polished silver lid. And did you notice, no label. This jar would work nicely with any decor.
But there are lots of other great selections on the Goose Creek Candle  Company website. Check out these cool Pumpkin Jar candles.

And of course there are traditional jars with labels as well. Here are some more fall favorite scents.

And you know it's never too early to start thinking about Christmas gifts! In addition to the giveaway, they are offering Elizabeth & Co. readers 25% off your entire purchase through September 30th. Just use coupon code 1050 at checkout.

If you'd like to enter the giveaway, just visit the Goose Creek Candle Company website. Then come back and leave a comment telling me which candle you'd like to win. How easy is that!

This giveaway runs through September 30th and I'll announce the winner on Monday, October 1st. ... Good Luck!

Progress on the Decorator Show House

Progress continues on the Decorator Show House. I love going through the house seeing the changes. Every decorator is working on their own schedule, so we never know what to expect when we arrive. And just in case you missed the first post, the girls here at Elizabeth & Co. are decorating two bedrooms on the third floor of this lovely parsonage in downtown Westminster. If you are a local reader, details are on the sidebar.

Even the outside of the house is getting a facelift. Last week the narrow concrete walks disappeared.

And the landscape crew was busy prepping for brick walkways and beautiful new plantings.

So, want to head inside and see what's been happening?

The living room just off the foyer has gone from soft gold to a big bold shade of red.

I was a little surprised to find the dining room going white, until I found out that the walls are being stenciled.

And that soft blue on the ceiling is just gorgeous!

The kitchen has been painted and it is clearly going to be chock full of vintage treasures.

Staging has begun on the side porch off the kitchen. And a floor stencil is in progress.

There are paint projects everywhere .....

along with plumbers, electricians and contractors.

There are hints about what each room will eventually look like.

The master bedroom will clearly have an equestrian theme.

The nursery has gone from hot pink to cool shades of blue in keeping with the sailboat theme.

And the fireplace is now clad with handpainted tiles.

I actually really loved the original yellow tub.

But the decorator clearly had a different vision. And the bright green of the bedroom is on it's way to a rosy glow.

The sunroom is probably my favorite room in the house.

This room is going to have a fresh modern feel.

And I am totally in love with the paint colors - Sherwin Williams Sea Salt and Summer White. Yes, I've actually gone through the entire house reading all the paint cans.

So ready to head up to the third floor?
I love the wonderful landing. And then there are our two bedrooms.

The front bedroom has been designated at the man servant's quarters. The time period we are expected to reference is 1850 to 1940. That's a rather wide range, so basically we're just going with what we do best - vintage!

And since our rooms did not need to be painted, we already have a good bit of furniture in place.

The rooms needs to look comfortable and functional, without being too fussy or formal. The furniture would have probably been an eclectic mix of whatever the family had no use for in the more public areas of the home. And we're pretty good at eclectic too!

Taking on both rooms on this floor, gave us the opportunity to decorate them with a very similar look and feel.

But I have to say that we are finding it much easier to accessorize the room designated as the woman servant's quarters. I guess no matter what the time period, girls just have/need/want more cute stuff!

This week we really need to work on getting things up on the walls and finalizing details. But we're happy with the progress we've made so far. We're enjoying the challenge and appreciate the opportunity!

And guess what, we have another whole house to decorate as our fall tag sale is just two weeks away! ... Maybe you should just call us crazy!

Industrial Spools and a Beadboard Sign

Today I'm sharing two fun projects from Megan. When she has time off from teaching, she really gets things done! I'm just way behind on posting. I'll let her fill you in on the details. Take it away Megan .....

Hi everyone!  I'm here today to share a few projects that I completed back in April over my spring break.  The first was inspired by a post at Apartment Therapy, which I had pinned quite awhile ago.  It was about unique ways to display jewelry and had this cool picture using industrial spools.

Luckily for me, my mom happened to have a few industrial spools that she said I could use for this project.  Thanks, Mom!

I began by lining the spools up on the wall and drilling a pilot hole.  Then I went back and drilled one screw on each side of the center bar.

All that was left was adding the jewelry.  This was certainly one quick and easy project.

I love having everything out within easy reach.  It looks beautiful and reminds me to wear them more often!

For my second project, I wanted to feature a piece of art over my bed.  My mom was telling me about the signs that Korrie makes at Red Hen Home.  I love that she paints on beadboard rather than plain wood.  I think it gives her signs such great texture.  Here's one of my favorites from her Etsy shop.

I decided to use the same idea on my sign.  I glued together two pieces of beadboard because I wanted two lines of writing.  I wanted to use a tan background, so I mixed up a custom color with white and brown.  I put two coats of paint on the beadboard.

Next, I printed out my quote and sized it up to the board.  I chose a quote that means a lot to my husband Liam and I.  It's from Kurt Vonnegut, one of my favorite writers, and we used the text as one of the readings at our wedding.  I wanted to use a typewriter style font to remind me of the typewriter that we had on display at our wedding.

By the way, if you are ever looking for unique fonts, you have to check out dafont.com.  I have spent hours browsing through all the cool fonts, and the best part is that almost all of them are free!  I chose a font called Traveling Typewriter.  I printed out my quote on regular printer paper, flipped it over to the back, and shaded over the text with the side of a pencil.

Then, I placed my text on the painted beadboard and began tracing each of the letters.  As you trace the letters, the pencil shading on the underside makes an outline of the letters on your board.  So cool!

Once I had my outline traced, I painted the letters with a small brush and some green craft paint.

To give it that weathered, layered feel, I added brown tinted glaze on top.  I rubbed it away until I had a nice textured look.  The glaze settled into the ridges to really bring out the beadboard.

After a light sanding to bring out the ridges of the beadboard even more, it was done!

To hang, I drilled holes in each corner and connected them with a length of twine.

I love looking at the quote every day; it's a reminder to step back and appreciate the little moments that make life special.  Thanks for reading!

Thanks so much for sharing Megan! I love your sweet home. And that quote reminds me of one of the most beautiful days ever!
