Petite Aqua/Turquoise Side Table

This petite little side table came out of a barn, complete with chickens. Seriously, lots of chickens!

It's looked a little sad in it's dreary brown paint, but it had really sweet lines. Just look at those curves! And it's a great little size and shape.

A good cleaning and a few coats of aqua/turquoise paint really brought it back to life and hopefully made it forget all about those chickens!

I did a light sanding, then on to my favorite part - glazing. I really like this Valspar Clear Mixing Glaze. The bottle makes it so easy to pour and you can mix it with pretty much any color paint you want. In this case, a little white.

The directions say 4-8 parts glaze to 1 part paint. I really don't measure exactly. I just mix it up in a plastic margarine tub. Wipe the glaze on with a sponge brush and rub off with a soft cloth. It's that easy. And it gives such a nice smooth finish. I wish you could feel how silky it feels!

And for a special touch, I lined the drawers with coordinating scrapbook paper - super quick and easy! Just measure your paper to fit the drawer and cut to size. Use a foam brush to spread a layer of Mod Podge (matte finish) over the bottom of the drawer. Place the paper in the drawer. Gently smooth out any air bubbles. I like to wait an few hours to allow it to cure, then spread another layer of Mod Podge on top of the paper for extra durability.

Much too pretty to be hanging out in a barn with chickens!

Feeling Beachy

Here is more from my painting weekend with Megan. We started with a really basic coffee table - nice lines, but pretty boring. Megan thought it needed a beachy feel.

The top got two coats of Sea Glass (another Martha Stewart sample) and the bottom got two coats of white.

After a good sanding for a time-worn look, we started playing with glaze. Megan mixed up a bowl of clear glaze (love the Valspar clear glaze in the handy pourable bottle) and some blue and white paint.

This was the fun part.

I gave it a rub-down with Minwax Finishing Wax for a silky smooth finish.

Pretty and beachy!

Yellow Bookcase

Ok, I'm not alone in my passion for yellow. It's my daughter Megan's favorite color. She decorates with yellow, drives a yellow car (very easy to find in a crowded parking lot) and used yellow touches throughout her wedding (it was lovely). So, it came as no surprise when she came home recently for a painting weekend and decided to use a little yellow!

This sturdy little bookcase just needed a back and a fresh coat of paint to bring it back to life. I love any chance I can get to use beadboard. ... Hmmm, good thing we had some rope in the car!

Megan picked a color combination of Custard and Bedford Gray from the Martha Stewart line of paint at Home Depot.

Pretty combination, don't you think? I already have the perfect spot for it. And we love to read, so we'll have no trouble filling the shelves!
