Ornament Wreaths

Last time, I shared the Anthropologie inspired snow globes that Megan and I made on our craft day last Saturday. We also each made an ornament wreath. This has been on my to-do list for years!

I've been collecting ornaments for ages. I have bowls, baskets and jars of them all over my house. And I've shared some with Megan to use at her house too. These are the boxes of extras - a box of large, a box of medium and small and a box with designs. Most of the more decorative balls are already in use, but we were pretty sure that we finally had enough ornaments to make some wreaths. It will take a good many ornaments to create a wreath!

We used straw wreath forms, but foam wreath forms would work well too.

I also have a collection of old tinsel garland. It's great for all sorts of holiday projects.

We set up shop at the kitchen table. It was a cold and blustery day, but with the sun streaming in the windows and holiday music playing, it felt warm and cozy inside.

We started by wrapping our wreath forms with the garland. This provided a sparkly background for the ornaments. Wow, that already looks cute! ... *And it's good idea at this point to make a loop of twine or wire to hang your wreath. You'll thank me for that reminder later!

With the wreath forms flat on the table, we glued an inner and outer ring of the larger ornaments on our wreaths.

This way you won't have gaps around the edges and your wreath will hang nicely against the wall or lay nice and flat on a table as a centerpiece. Wouldn't these look great with a hurricane candle in the center?

Then we just continued to layer the ornaments, using the smallest ones last to fill in the gaps.

And here is Megan's completed wreath. Oh, how pretty!

She really liked the look of seeing the garland showing through.

I piled on a few more ornaments. It's hard to stop once you get started!

Megan's wreath went home to hang in her dining room. Mine found a spot on a chippy old door in my family room. The door was a surprise Christmas present from my husband quite a few years ago. It was an inspired gift idea and I still love it! My mother-in-law thinks it needs to go to the dump. I just smile!

Megan and I love the way our little craft projects turned out. And even more, we loved just hanging out and laughing together. It was so much fun and very relaxing too! If you want to create a wonderful memory this holiday season, plan a special day to just hang out and do something fun with the special people in your life. That memory will last long after all the gifts are opened!

And don't forget, you have just a few more days to enter our Shabby Apple Dress Giveaway!
