Old White China Cabinet

I came across this china cabinet at my local Goodwill. I decided to go for a classic look and painted the outside of the cabinet in Old White chalk paint.

This one was in great shape. I just gave her an overall light sanding with a sanding sponge.

She had a bit of red in her, so I ended up doing a third coat of chalk paint.

The reflections in the glass doors made her really hard to photograph!

I love the scale of this piece. She would look lovely in almost any room. You know that china cabinets aren't just for china. I have one in my bathroom!

And that molding is just gorgeous!

I thought all white was a little boring, so I mixed some Paris Grey and Louis Blue together for the inside of the cabinet. Mixing your own colors is fun and a great way to use up the last bits of paint in a can!

I love the contrast of the blue/grey against the white.

I kept all the original hardware and went right over it with the chalk paint. That's one of my favorite things about chalk paint!

And chalk paint really does distress beautifully!

I finished up with a coat of clear wax and that was it!

I like how it turned out.... your posts really inspire me to look at the furniture at the thrift stores a little more closely! Some of the pieces that get passed by would be beauties with a bit of paint!

PS I like that you painted the inside a different color too :)

She looks fabulous. I love the crown moulding around the top and the simple glass doors. Great colour and great distressing.

I love this project, and I love the finished product. Nothing like white paint to spruce something up. I just put a china cabinet on my back porch and painted it with homemade chalk paint in a similar fashion. I am a new follower.

O, wow! It's so pretty, and that gray blue interior just tops it all off. I think it would look great almost everywhere, too. Mostly, it would look great in my house. :)

Great piece! I have a similiar china cabinet in my sewing/laundry room. I keep fabric and misc items stored in there. Mine, however was bought new at K-Mart several years ago. It was a Martha Steward line and I love it!!

I love it! I'd want to fill it up with books and treasures in front of the books. I've had my eye on things like that around here but they're always a little too tall or a little too wide. So the search goes on!
