Petite Yellow Dresser

I just love the petite size and sweet details on this little dresser. I can so picture it in a nursery, so I thought it was a perfect candidate for yellow.







We have a local unfinished furniture store that sells this milk paint. I've been wanting to try it try it for awhile now. And who could resist a color called buttermilk yellow?





I was pleased with the finish, but this paint was extremely thick and a bit of a challenge to work with. But once I thinned it down a bit, it went on smoothly. It was however, more expensive than most traditional paint.




Along with the milk paint, I picked up some yellow ochre glaze. I brushed it on with a sponge brush and rubbed it off with a soft cloth. I liked the color and the glaze very easy to work with.









The beauty of glazing is that you can use as much or as little as you like. Just be sure to have a wet and a dry cloth handy. If you are not happy with the result, you can just wipe it off and ty again. It's pretty much fool-proof!





The photo below really shows what a difference glaze can make. The top drawer has the finished glaze, the middle drawer has wet glaze that has not yet been rubbed off and the third drawer has no glaze at all.







A dry brush is great for working the glaze into all the little nooks and crannies. It's a Purdy, of course.





Here is my very sophisticated method for painting knobs using a cardboard box.








And here is the finished dresser after a bit of distressing and a few coats of polycrylic for durability. I was really pleased with the result, although this was a really hard color to photograph. I tried outside first, then inside in various rooms with different camera settings. The color is really pretty and much richer in person.












These original wooden knobs are really cute.
















And I love the curvy apron along the bottom, plus everything just looks cuter on wheels.




Just perfect for a nursery!

    love it sharon!!!! i love sweet dressers like this in buttery yellows. so soft and pretty, and yes, perfect for a nursery. some lucky baby will have this dresser for years to come.

    What a fun dresser! I love to see yellow pieces because it's a color that's not often used. I had classic "Winnie the Pooh" in all of my kids rooms and they had yellow dressers. I loved it!

    Beautiful! I haven't seen milk paint in years. Everyone will be wanting to paint with now after seeing this gorgeous dresser. The soft yellow milk paint is perfect :D

    I agree, wheels do make everything cuter. Love the yellow. I've been craving more yellow lately. I haven't used milk paint. The glaze really gave it depth.

    Sharon, That is a wonderful little dresser. There is nothing like milk paint..it has a richness to it that you don't find in any other paint..but it is a bit harder to work with. However, once the danged stuff is on you can't blast it off. Love the color you picked and I think it fits the character of the piece perfectly. Hugs-Diana

    I love that dresser, Sharon. I've used milk paint before and love the colors available, but you have to thin it with water it's so thick! The yellow ochre really made this dresser one of a kind.

    It turned out darling! I've never tried milk paint either. Interesting! Love the glaze & distressing, though. And, yes, yellows are so very hard to get a good photo of.

    I've always wanted to try milk paint, but never have used it. I really like the end result of your piece once the glaze was on. Thanks for sharing how the milk paint looks. I love yellow, so I'd use it in my house even though I don't have a nursery, but it will be perfect for a baby's room!
