This little table came from a barn sale. Isn't it cute? The gentleman told me that it was his nightstand when he was a child. Now he just thought it was too small to be practical. That's just what I loved about it. It is tiny and petite. And with a pop of color, a perfect accent.
Somehow, I forgot to take a before photo, but it was your basic brown wood.
After the usual scrubbing, sanding and priming, two coats of the teal. It always seems a little bright at this point, but have no fear, the glaze will tone it right down.
I just mixed a little black paint with clear glaze. I brushed it on with a little sponge brush and wiped it off with a cloth. This seems like the most practical way to go for me. You can mix any color with the clear glaze and have your own custom shade of glaze. I just mix it all together in an old margarine tub.
And don't you love the little teardrop knob?
I think I like teal!

LOL...fingers typing faster than my brain. "I am also painting a thrift store find teal with glazing to finish it." There, that's better.

i don't do much painting....so where does one get the Martha paint samples ?? for $3 i may start painting things !!!!
That is gorgeous - that color is perfection. I'm with Christine - where did you score the paint? I must buy some!
Thanks for sharing.
Cute little table and great paint job. How many ounces are in the Martha Stewart samples and where do you find them? I've been getting the Benjamin Moore samples but they are only 2 ounces and don't go too far. Yours looks larger!
The Martha Stewart paint is now at Home Depot. The sample sizes come in handy 8oz bottles for $2.94 here in Maryland. The bottle has a nifty little brush for touch-ups. You can do 2 coats of paint on a small project like this and still have some paint left. It's a great way to sample some bold or new colors without buying a whole can of paint. So far, I've tried the pink, teal and sea glass. I believe there were about 8-10 choices in the sample size, but I liked Matha's other colors so much that I bought a few quart size cans in other colors for bigger projects. ... Thanks for asking. I love comments and questions!
Ooooh. I love it!
I am going to try the little sample bottles! I am glad you are in Maryland because I am too so they must have it! =)
I love that teal!!!! I used a sample bottle on one of my latest items and I loved it. At first I wasn't sure I would have enough and I actually have 3/4ths of it leftover. A great deal for $2.99.
What a great job you did. It's inspiring. I told my husband just now I want to start redoing the furniture... he looked at me a little funny. (smile) Found you over at Backyard Eden. Love the teal, it looks fabulous.

Two things - first, LOVE the teal color! It is a favorite of mine, any chance I get, I use it! Second, I never knew about those little sample bottles, going to have to try it! Thanks for sharing!!!
Just found you again from a different blog you had linked to...wow, small world :)! Love this color!
That's amazing you could paint that entire nightstand with just a sample size of paint! How cool! I love the color!
Keeping cool? Isn't it just brutal here in MD?

So...it sounds like you like the Martha paint. How does it compare to Bher?
I am loving the color blue nowadays...I just did a side table in a blue finish. Your teal piece came out very nice... love the hardware, too.

I just picked up that same exact color in Martha's samples! I was unsure how it would look actually painted, but now that I see this treasure I can't wait to use it! Lovely!
I have two comments. Number one, you should definately receive a referral check from Martha Stewart for giving her paint such a wonderful testimonial and second Debbie mentions a "garage salen party"- I would love to know what that is.
Thank you for the Martha samples tip. I just acquired a small table that I had already decided to paint in that teal. Love your blog!
Thanks for joining us for Anything Related #14! ~Bridgette
I want that! Actually, I want TWO of them. I ahve been in the market for two matching side tables to refinish...with no luck. And what you have is just the style I'm after:)
Anyway, I just found your blog! Love it! And at only 2 months old with over 30 followers, you are well on your way to success! Nice work! You have a beautiful blog.
