Here is more from my painting weekend with Megan. We started with a really basic coffee table - nice lines, but pretty boring. Megan thought it needed a beachy feel.
The top got two coats of Sea Glass (another Martha Stewart sample) and the bottom got two coats of white.
This was the fun part.
I gave it a rub-down with Minwax Finishing Wax for a silky smooth finish.

After a good sanding for a time-worn look, we started playing with glaze. Megan mixed up a bowl of clear glaze (love the Valspar clear glaze in the handy pourable bottle) and some blue and white paint.

Love the look. I've been trying to think of the right paint color and finish to do on a coffee table I found next to a dumpster. Thanks for sharing!

That looks great! Very weekend-at-the-water.
I am a newby at this. what did you do with the paint and valspar? did you mix together??? then wax it??? looks beautiful!
Wonderful! I love the colors.
So pretty - and yes, beachy! Gorgeous color on top.
I can hear the waves crashing already.:) From the color choices to the distressing you have created a delightful table. Very gracious of you for sharing your wonderful technique!
Your table redo is yummy! It has such a beachy feel and puts off a serene, relaxing vibe. Who knew that plain table could be this good looking? Clever women!
Just love this color. Great job!
Hi, this is Megan. I'm so glad you're liking the table, it was a lot of fun to work on.
To canngil: I started out with the Valspar clear glaze in a plastic butter dish. Then I added a spoonful of a medium blue color (I believe the color is Bluecoat). That was a little too dark, so I added a little white paint to lighten it up. There are no exact measurements, just whatever looks right to you.
I rubbed on the blue glaze, let it sit for a minute, and then rubbed some of it off with a damp washcloth. If you let it sit longer, more glaze will stick to the table.
Probably the hardest part was making sure the different sections of the table were glazed evenly. I kept a bucket of water and more towels next to me for times when I wanted to wipe the whole thing off and start again. (This happened a few times on different parts of the table.)
My mom did the waxing part, and that was hours later (or maybe the next day?) after the glaze had dried.
This was my first time glazing, but I'm very happy with how it turned out. Thanks for all the positive feedback!
that looks awesome! we did something very similar to our coffee table. i love the casual beachy feel.
I really like how your table came out..perfect..
